The comeback of shein

 Only Buziness

Why did it get banned in India ?

In a significant move, Shein, the popular Chinese fast-fashion brand, is set to make a comeback in India after being banned in 2020 under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. The ban, part of a broader crackdown on Chinese apps due to escalating border tensions, prompted Shein to relocate its headquarters from China to Singapore.

The comeback

Now, more than a year after this regulatory action, Shein is poised to re-enter the Indian market through a strategic partnership with Reliance Retail Ventures. This collaboration, reportedly finalized over the past year, aims to reintroduce Shein’s products both online and through Reliance Retail’s extensive offline stores across the country.

Founded in 2008 by Chris Xu, Shein has gained global recognition for its trendy fashion offerings. The upcoming launch signifies a significant comeback for the brand, marking its return to India after a four-year hiatus. This move not only highlights Shein's resilience but also underscores the strategic alignment between global fashion trends and India's retail landscape, facilitated by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Retail.
